Gazpacho

Gazpacho is roughly what I’d call a progressive rock band. They have the core of a progressive rock band but surface appearance of an older rock band. Their singer immediately reminded me of an odd mixture of Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley, but the music definitely had a sound of progressive rock. What makes Gazpacho a bit on the outskirts of progressive rock is their ambient, art rock, and folk influences.

Mabool | Orphaned Land

Orphaned Land is an Israeli progressive metal group that, not surprisingly, is heavily influenced by middle-eastern sounds and Jewish themes.

Flight of the Conchords

OK fine, so they’re not amazing composers, instrumentalists, or singers. But they do play an impressively wide variety of musical styles. They’re also liable to make you laugh out loud often. If you’re a fan of their show on HBO then you already know what I’m talking about.

“Politically-aware and ideologically driven” was how Rave, a top Indian music magazines described Malayali rock band Avial in its October 2006 issue. Without really having a clue of what they are saying, I actually fell in love with their musical skills and talents. Glad to know that if I did understand the lyrics, I would like the whole package!
