Gov’t Mule
I have a feeling this won’t be my first post on Gov’t Mule. I only have their self-titled (1995) and Dose (1998). They didn’t stop there. They have several studio and live albums, and they have released a studio album as recently as this year, i.e. The Haunted Holy House (2008). Gov’t Mule was originally a side project with two members from The Allman Brothers Band. As far as I’m concerned, the rest is history. Sometimes it’s nice to know the history of a band, but quite frankly, I’m much more interested in the music itself.
Picture of a Thousand Faces | Eric Gales Band
I feel the need to pull out a little bit of childhood nostalgia. There’s quite a few bands from the early ’90’s I’ve been meaning to post about. I’ve also been doing a poor job of representing my interest in blues artists. Eric Gales strikes both of those strings… although he’s not exactly blues, just heavily blues influenced rock. To my surprise, he’s actually still cranking out albums (I have a bad habit of writing about bands that have parted ways).
Self-Titled | Ian Moore
There’s something missing among the selection of artists I’ve chosen to share. Every so often it hits me I don’t have nearly enough jazz to properly represent my personal tastes. Well, today it hit me I’m slacking not just in jazz, but on the blues end too. I aim to change that, and I’m gonna kick it off with some good ol’ Texas blues.
TRY! | John Mayer Trio
For those of you that have met me, this may come as a surprise that I happen to own a couple John Mayer albums. Honestly, most of his music is too mainstream for me which is why it came to me as a surpise when I heard him say Stevie Ray Vaughan was one of his biggest influences. I didn’t buy it for a second… that is until I heard TRY! - John Mayer Trio Live In Concert.
The Real Guitar Heroes
I’ve heard far too many conversations about ‘great’ guitarists that seemed to exclude the obvious choices. Well here’s my chance to list a few of the great guitar players that I feel aren’t referenced enough by the common listener, and this time I’m armed with audio clips.
