The Mercury Program

The Mercury Program just puts me right in the zone to focus and enjoy whatever I’m working on.

Coldplay Needs to Give it Up

So, I just came across a link to a wonderful article from Billboard listing the Top 100 Singles of 2008. Surprisingly, I actually recognized 31 of the artists and I believe I’ve heard only 3 of the singles. Given that I do actually get out to the bar from time to time, it’s entirely possible [...]

Miles’ First Great Quintet

Miles’ first great quintet released six albums together, and four of these were all recorded during the same two marathon sessions in 1956. And there were no second takes. This is raw 50’s post-Bird jazz at its best.

Foundation | Brand Nubian

Born in the era of A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, Brand Nubian laid down its mark on the socially conscious and politically charged realm of hip hop. A group comprised of some amazing emcees like Sadat X, Grand Puba, and Lord Jamar and joining forces with two well known DJs by the name of Alamo and Sincere, they produced over 7 full length albums to date.

All Seeing Eye | Klone

If one believes there’s such a genre as art rock, then surely there is something along the lines of art metal. I recently came across another metal band from France that would fit such a preposterous description. Klone is a peculiar mixture of mainstream rock, hard rock, death metal, experimental rock, jazz, and crazy. Whomever runs their MySpace page must have found me since I friended Demians given that they found me shortly after finding Demians and they’re both from France. Although Klone does have a few moments when the two bands could be easily compared, that’s about the extent of the connection between the two bands.

Degradation Trip | Jerry Cantrell

You may recall my post a couple weeks back on Mad Season. I found a review suggesting that they sounded exactly as you’d expect knowing that Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) was the singer, and I explicitly stated this was false. That doesn’t mean a side-project can’t sound very similar to its predecessor and still be great. Jerry Cantrell also started a side-project from Alice in Chains… and it’s just as you’d expect.

Adam Tensta

The man is of Norwegian descent and is making a true mark in the hip hop world. Especially in Europe. He’s been nominated for Best Swedish Act at the European MTV Awards, his album “It’s A Tensta Thing” was awarded the Swedish equivalent to the Grammy’s for best Hip Hop and Soul album, and his single “My Cool” has been a chart topping single around the hip hop scene.

Self-Titled | God is an Astronaut

I’m not sure I could have found this album at a better time. I was in need of a really good new release, and it’s even better that this one is from one of my favorite bands. Despite the fact that a God is an Astronaut concert was the birth place of Obnoxious Listeners, I somehow forgot about their upcoming release… almost.
