Best Interview of James Maynard Keenan from Tool

You have to check this out. Maynard is way too funny!

When Life Gives You Lemons | Atmosphere

The key difference of course is if all you can write about is yourself, you’re bound to run out of material faster than you can create it. So, that was the question for grungy hip-hop artist Atmosphere: was there more to their rhymes than just sardonic stories of love lost and self-flagellation?

Lunatic Soul

Let’s get something straight. I don’t have a man-crush on Mariusz Duda per se… I mean, yes, I happen to love every album he’s had a hand in. And yes, I did travel 10 hrs each way to meet him at Riverside’s first non-feastival show in the US. And so what, I would have made that travel for just the show. You can also ignore the fact that I was practically speechless during our interview with Mariusz.

Quality | Talib Kweli

Shortly after I graduated from high school and only one year after 9/11, Talib Kweli made a decision to release a new album after his critically acclaimed Train of Thought. This time though, he wanted to expand production styles and explore some new topics. Especially things going on in the world after the disaster in New York and Washington D.C. He named in Quality (2002) and it’s name speaks for itself.

Murs 3:16 | Murs

Growing to become one of my favorite conscious rappers around, Murs is launching his musical career in contrast to Theodore Roosevelt’s famous line, “Speak softly and carry a big stick”. Murs has a very strong voice with lyrics that go far beyond conscious. He keeps things simple, he raps clearly, and he talks about things every “obnoxious” person can relate to.

RIAA Bans Telling Friends About Songs

RIAA Bans Telling Friends About Songs - I wouldn’t put it past the RIAA…

Gov’t Mule

I have a feeling this won’t be my first post on Gov’t Mule. I only have their self-titled (1995) and Dose (1998). They didn’t stop there. They have several studio and live albums, and they have released a studio album as recently as this year, i.e. The Haunted Holy House (2008). Gov’t Mule was originally a side project with two members from The Allman Brothers Band. As far as I’m concerned, the rest is history. Sometimes it’s nice to know the history of a band, but quite frankly, I’m much more interested in the music itself.

Flight of the Conchords

OK fine, so they’re not amazing composers, instrumentalists, or singers. But they do play an impressively wide variety of musical styles. They’re also liable to make you laugh out loud often. If you’re a fan of their show on HBO then you already know what I’m talking about.

New Mos Def Jazz Track

Check out the new Mos Def track with Charlie Hunter Quartet entitled Creole (thx Rucha)

Commencement | Dahlak Brathwaite

Dahlak has done it again. He’s released not only another album, he’s created it in the most obnoxious manner! The collaborations, the production, and the lyrics are all of very high quality. And top to that, he’s created the entire album off the theme of giving respect to his mentor Mr. Kanye West.
